Outreach Team
Minutes
September 13, 2010
The Outreach Ministries Team met on September 13, 2010 in the church fellowship hall. Martha Vogely openened the meeting with devotions followed by prayer by Charles Curry. Minutes of the July 12 meeting were reviewed by the members present.
Because of the upcoming budget meeting Charles said he would like to discuss the budget needs for each committee as well as whether certain committees should be added or removed.
The following committee reports were given and budgeted:
Senior Ministries ($125.00) Since the end of May approximately 23 visits have been made Donna Rae Botkin said the people they had visited were very appreciative. It was suggested that the people they visited be given a small item (bookmark, mug, etc.) with the church's name on it. Edith Lam reported that approximately 20 senior citizens attend the monthly meetings at Thomas House in Dayton.
Disaster Relief Ministries ($750.00) It was suggested that the name of this committee be changed to "Mission Ministries". Charles Curry, Padi Burtner, Melissa Simmons and Glen Langston were involved in two trips to North Carolina and Tennessee.
Singing Ministries ($200.00) The Good News Gospel Quartet will be performing in October. A discussion was held about the possibility of inviting a younger group of musicians to perform at either the Lawn Party or at the church. Betty Young was looking into some "praise" groups that might be available.
Travel Ministries ($725.00) A trip to Lynchburg for a Christmas program was discussed and Betty was to get more information. Martha also brought up the idea of "sponsoring people" to go on the trips who might have trouble with funding or as a way to get more youth and young people involved.
Recreational Fellowship Ministries ($200.00) Delton Botkin was looking into renting the gym for basketball during the winter months.
Inspirational Fellowship Ministries No money was budgeted because this is already budgeted in the Administrative Budget. Memorabilia available for sale includes: shirts, mugs, notecards, and tote bags.
Food Ministries ($200.00) The church is asked to supply detergent in June and December for the Food Pantry in Churchville. Approximately 50 bottles are needed each time and the budgeted money would be used to help pay for detergent not donated. The Outreach Team also decided to supply tooth brushes in March and diapers in September.
Local Family Support Ministries ($1,000.00) This involves both homebound deliveries and bereavement meals. Betty reported that she had made and taken fruit baskets to Beverley Dunkum and Elmer Terry and was planning to take two more.
Children's Ministries ($0) Shoebox Ministries was discussed as a possible project for the children. Someone will contact Michelle Young with the information to see if they would be interested.
Twenty Something Ministries (No report)
Prison Ministries ($0) Joyce Evers reported that the church would be receiving "apples" from Prison Way Ministries in October and the gifts would be collected the Sunday following Thanksgiving.
Religious Education Ministries ($100.00) - It was brought to the team's attention that information about WRE was no longer allowed to be sent home in backpacks. Because of this, new students to the school and younger students may not be aware of the WRE program. The team discussed ways to let the general population know about the program and decided to contact Mrs. Denise Coon, the WRE teacher at NR, to see how our chruch and other churches in the area could help with the dissemination of information.
Community Outreach Information ($1,000.00) The church will help with wood for a family in the area and deal with other situations as they arise.
Clothing Ministries ($0)
Mission Education ($0)
Total budget for 2011 - $4300.00
The Mission Speaker for October will be Dave Cummins (or someone else) from the Churchville Food Pantry. Delton Botkin will lead the devotions at the next meeting on November 8.
Charles Curry closed the meeting with prayer.
