Minutes

May 10, 2010

The Outreach Ministries Team met at the Church on May 10, 2010.  Charles Curry, Chairman, opened the meeting followed by devotions and prayer.

Sue Floyd reviewed the minutes of the previous meeting.

The following Ministries gave their reports:

Food Ministries:  Food items and detergent are continuously collected for the Churchville Food Pantry.  Please contact Ruthie Snyder if you would like to volunteer to assist with this program.

Travel Ministries:  The bus bound for Lancaster, PA on June 26th to see "Joseph" and to eat at the Good 'N' Plenty Restaurant has been filled.  A list of alternates has been started in case there is an emergency that prohibits someone from going.

Disaster Response Ministries:  Haiti Relief Kits are being prepared for the Annual Conference Collection.  Flyers with information can be found in the narthex.  Money may be donated to purchase items for the kits and the Children's Ministry group will prepare the kits.  Charles Curry will be traveling to Lumberton, NC from June 20 to June 24th to assist with the Lumbee Indian mission work sponsored by the Harrisonburg district.  The group will be replacing flooring and doing outside painting.  Lodging will be in the Baptist Hostel at Pembroke University.  The cost is $150.00 per person.  Mary Jane Rawley is the Mission Coordinator and Gary Locklear is the Home Missioner.  Interested persons should contact Charles Curry.

Recreational Fellowship Ministries:  The North River Elementary School ball field has been reserved for Church softball on Tuesdays and Thursdays from July 6th through August 5th.  Please contact  your friends and neighbors that might be interested in joining in the fun.  We expect to hold practice on Tuesdays and play another Church team on Thursdays.  Interested persons should contact Delton Botkin.  If you do not wish to play but would be willing to coach or be an umpire, your assistance would be appreciated.

Senior Ministries:  A new visitation ministry has been started to provide support for older adults in our community.  Visitations are planned for the fourth Monday of each month.  Members of our congregation are encouraged to meet at the Church at 10:00 am and go out in teams to make the visits.  Contact Donna Rae Botkin to suggest people who need to be visited or to volunteer for visits.  A list of people to be visited will be posted in the narthex.

Singing Ministries:  "Southern Grace" will be performing at the Church on Sunday, May 23rd at 7 pm.  A free will offering will be collected to support their music ministry.

Inspirational Fellowship Ministries:  Cards for all occasions are available in the narthex.  They may be used by anyone who would like to send a note to someone on your mind.  If you have cards to donate, please add them to the pile.  The Ladies Inspirational Fellowship Time committee has met and set up the program for their November 13th program.  All ladies need to mark their calendar and be prepared for an inspiring, uplifting day at Sangerville-Towers Ruritan Hall.

Prison Ministries:  Steve Saufley leads a group that regularly conducts a prison ministry.  He will visit our congregation soon to describe his experiences.
