Outreach Team

February 25, 2010

The Good Works Team/Outreach Ministries met at the Church February 25, 2010.  Charles Curry, Chairman, opened the meeting with devotions followed by the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting.

Looking at 2010 Outreach Ministries, several things were added, including:

    Martha Vogely and Padi Burtner to food banks under Food Ministries.  Edith Lam, Joyce Evers, and Flora Mae Gay were added to Meals.

    It was asked whether there were any other projects to add.  It was suggested that a Weekday Religious Education leader be added.  Barbara Michael was selected to be the W.R.E. leader.

    Pastor Glen will be the contact for Wesley Foundation dinner (while someone else is tapped.)

  Under Singing Ministries, Betty Young and Martha Vogely will set up the 5th Sunday Music, and Evening Concert.

    Food Ministries need an interested leader for Valley Mission.

    Recreation - Looking for outlets (North River gym - basketball night).  Bill Crummett was suggested to help Delton Botkin.

Group leaders of the individual ministries are to recruit help for their committee, meet as a group with their team and then provide an update at future meetings.

Charles Curry reported on the Lancaster Trip to PA June 26, 2010 - 32 tickets have been purchased.

The North River Ministerial Association would like to have volunteers to help at North River School during lunch.  This would give extra help to children as needed and give teachers a break.  Pastor Glen will be in charge of volunteers.

It was suggested that possibly a group could be set up to help in someone's home when there is a need and the person cannot afford help.

Annie Pierce from Christ United Methodist Church, Shenandoah, Virginia gave a presentation on the purpose of developing a care ministry that will help our church grow in Christan Encouragement, Christian Outreach, and Christian Fellowship/Friendship.  Her main focus pertained to Senior Citizen actiivies.  They meet on the 4th Thursday of each month from 12 noon to 2 pm.  A meal is provided followed by a 45 minute program.  She left a folder with ideas and a website:  www.vaumc.org.

Our next Outreach meeting was set up for March 8th at 7 pm in the Church Social Hall.
